Reason for Recommended Action/Background |
On June 26, 2018 the Yolo County Board of Supervisors approved a contract with YoloArts for the operation of the Gibson House property, located at 512 Gibson Road, Woodland, CA. As a result, the County effectively terminated an operational agreement held with the Yolo County Historical Museum Corporation (YCHM) on September 15, 2018, which had previously provided YCHM a license to operate that property. However, the County still holds a separate contract (Agreement No. 02-132) with YCHM concerning the residential property adjacent to the Gibson House, located at 508 Gibson Rd., Woodland, CA.
This property was purchased by the County in 2002 with funds from YCHM, totaling up to $215,000, for the purposes of providing additional administration space for the Gibson House museum operations. Agreement No. 02-132 provided the terms of the purchase and maintenance of the property while also granting YCHM a license to occupy the residence. This property was used as administration space for YCHM for a time, but in recent years was operated by YCHM as a rental property that brought in revenue for the operation of the Gibson House museum.
Due to the termination of the Gibson House museum operational agreement with YCHM, the original purpose of the license to occupy the 508 Gibson Road property, provided to YCHM in Agreement No. 02-132, no longer applies. Additionally, YCHM has informed the County that they are not interested in moving into 508 Gibson Rd. and instead have requested that the County sell the property and provide them with any proceeds up to $215,000, as provided for in the agreement.
As a result, staff recommends that the license to occupy and use the 508 Gibson Road property granted to YCHM pursuant to Agreement No. 02-132, be terminated effective immediately. The Board of Supervisors has not yet determined the future of this County-owned property, whether to maintain or sell it. The Ad Hoc Committee is current reviewing options and intends to return to the Board at a later date with a recommended action. |
