Reason for Recommended Action/Background

The American Automobile Association (AAA) has been a long-time community partner with the Yolo County Health and Human Services Agency Car Seat Safety Program. The strong partnership between these two organizations has resulted in many successful efforts to meet the demand for car seat safety education and car seat checkups throughout Yolo County communities. As a result of this positive relationship, AAA would like to make a cash donation to the Yolo County Car Seat Safety program to help pay for the advertisement and supply costs associated with local car seat checkup events.

According to the County of Yolo Donations Acceptance Policy, only the Board of Supervisors is authorized to accept restricted donations to the County, upon determination that such donation is in the best interest of the County, and that the County is ready and able to comply with the restrictions or conditions put on the donation by the donor. In this instance, the only restriction from AAA is for the funding to be designated towards car seat safety events. Staff plans to use the funds to assist with advertising and to purchase checkup materials for an upcoming event.

At this time, staff recommends that the Yolo County Board of Supervisors accept the donation of $750 from AAA for use in supporting events hosted by the Yolo County Car Seat Safety Program.
