Reason for Recommended Action/Background |
Each year, pursuant to the provisions of Sections 2279 and 2272 of the California Food and Agricultural Code, the Yolo County Agriculture Department prepares the Agricultural Crop Report summarizing the acreage, production and value of Yolo County's agricultural commodities. This report represents gross value only and does not attempt to reflect the net farm income.
The gross value of Yolo County's agricultural production for 2016 was $662,392,000. This represents a decrease of $2,346,000 or 0.4% below 2015's corrected value of $664,738,000. The majority of this decline is due to continued drought conditions coupled with overall lower commodity prices. Processing tomatoes remain Yolo County's leading commodity with a gross value of $121,513,000. Tomatoes, Almonds, Wine Grapes, Organic Production, and Rice are the top five commodities according to gross value. Sunflower Seed, Walnuts, Alfalfa Hay, Nursery Products, and Cattle round out the top ten commodities for 2016. |
