Strategic Plan Goal(s) |
Preserve and ensure safe and crime free communities |
Reason for Recommended Action/Background |
After years of increased rates of illegal sales of tobacco to minors occurring in all 4 cities and the unincorporated area of Yolo County, in 2006, the Board of Supervisors adopted a tobacco retail permit ordinance which generates funds for enforcement and revokes permits of violators. This ordinance is enforced by a collaborative partnership between the District Attorney’s Office, Environmental Health, and the Health and Human Services Agency. To encourage other Yolo County cities to adopt the same ordinance, the County offers administrative and enforcement services to those cities that may lack the infrastructure to run the program. In 2007, the County entered into this type of agreement with the City of Davis. With the adoption of their Tobacco Permit Ordinance on June 16, 2015, the City of Woodland requests the same agreement with the County. |
