The Probation Department Work Program provides an alternative to custody for both juvenile and adult offenders. Low-risk offenders are allowed to serve their time by working in the community while supervised by department staff. Probation provides work program crews to county departments and other governmental agencies. The revenue received for these contracted services helps to offset the cost of supervision as well as equipment. In addition, adult offenders pay participant fees for costs associated with this alternative program. Yolo County and the City of Woodland have historically utilized the Probation Work Program crews to provide landscape maintenance, weed abatement and other services, along with community beautification projects such as tree planting, alley clean-up and other landscape type duties.
