Reason for Recommended Action/Background |
The name William H. Rickers was selected by a naming committee, convened using Yolo County's Naming of County Assets policy, for the newly constructed, and unnamed Multi-Purpose Room/Gym at the Juvenile Detention Facility.
William H. Rickers was a beloved and respected teacher at the JDF's Dan Jacobs school. Per his colleagues, his passion for education and helping disadvantaged youth was evident by the participation and respect he received everyday in the classroom. Among the many subjects he taught, physical education was the highlight of many youths' day, and his ability to motivate them to be competitive in a positive way was amazing. Sadly, he passed away unexpectedly in 2011 while working in his classroom. This name was submitted by staff that worked with Mr. Rickers, and approved for submission to the full Board by the Board Facilities Subcommittee on March 6, 2018. |
Collaborations (including Board advisory groups and external partner agencies) |
Staff collaborated with the Juvenile Justice Commission and Yolo County Staff to select a name for the JDF building, as well as the Board Facilities Sub-Committee for approval of the name. |
