Reason for Recommended Action/Background |
The Yolo County Maternal, Child, Adolescent Health (MCAH) Advisory Board was established by the Board of Supervisors with Resolution No. 92-24, effective Feb 24, 1992, to proactively work to preserve, promote and enhance health and support systems for Yolo County women, children and their families. The membership of the MCAH Advisory Board is appointed by the Board of Supervisors and includes MCAH service consumers, representatives from health professions and organizations concerned with maternal, child and adolescent health, school nurses, child and adolescent advisory groups and other individuals interested in the health of women and children. Currently, the MCAH Advisory Board consists of 10 members representing both the public and private sectors.
Each year the MCAH Advisory Board undertakes the following broad activities, while focusing on specific steps to solve identified needs at its annual retreat.
- Annually review available data indicators to assess health status, health system adequacy and utilization related to the MCAH population;
- Inform and advise the Board of Supervisors and local Public Health Officer on real and anticipated impacts upon health status as a result of changes in federal, state and local legislation, policy and funding;
- Provide input on the development and progress of the 5 year strategic plan and development of priority areas for the local MCAH Program;
- Research and provide input to the Board of Supervisors on any issue relating to the health of the MCAH population at the request of the Board of Supervisors or based on issues of concern to the MCAH Advisory Board;
- Advocate for solutions to identified MCAH special needs and priorities through promotion of public awareness, coordination of existing services, and encouragement of new resource development;
- Provide an annual report of MCAH Advisory Board Activities to the Board of Supervisors.
The Yolo County MCAH Advisory Board meets monthly except in July and December. Over the course of the year, updates and presentations on a variety of issues were reviewed including: Adverse Childhood Experiences and Maternal Mental Health, Yolo County Mortality highlighting MCAH Implications, Childhood Vaccination and SB 277 Briefing, Child Abuse Prevention work, Sugar Sweetened Beverages Consumption Reduction efforts, Public Health Accreditation updates, Communities of Excellence in Tobacco Control, and Autism Services for Partnership HealthPlan members. |
