As part of the operating agreement between the Gibson House Museum, located at 512 Gibson Road in Woodland, and Yolo County, the General Services Department is responsible for contracting services to provide onsite fire and burglar alarm systems. Due to the outdated nature of the existing system, the Museum is currently experiencing an increase in false alarms, largely in part to the decay of low voltage wiring and obsolete relays. The current system also features an integrated fire and security feature which no longer complies with County building code requirements.
General Services was directed to request quotes for new fire and burglar alarms and has received quotes from Universal, Security and Fire Corporation, the firm responsible for fire and burglar monitoring at all other County owned and operated facilities. Approval of this budget resolution will allow General Services to install separate fire and security systems. The updated security system is a wireless system with adjustable motion sensors, which will reduce the number of false alarms. The fire system will also be wireless and meets all requirements of the Woodland Fire Department.
The Gibson Museum is located on two-and-a-half landscaped acres and has been open to the public for more than 25 years. The house and grounds are maintained for educational and recreational purposes. The museum represents a typical rural home and ranch setting of the period from the mid-nineteenth to the early twentieth centuries. It remains the only historic home in Yolo County open to the public and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
