Reason for Recommended Action/Background |
Due to the success of the District Attorney's Multi-Disciplinary Interview Center (MDIC), the County Administrator's Office tasked the MDIC director with pioneering the Family Violence Coordination Pilot Project (FVCPP), aka Family Justice Center, to progress forward and address the new criminal dynamics of Yolo County as a result of recent state laws reducing prison/jail time. The FVCPP offers a wide variety of services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and elder abuse that includes counseling, legal and community based services.
In October 2015 the MDIC director and Empower Yolo, the Domestic Violence Assistance and Rape Crisis Program for Yolo County, collaboratively applied for the County Victim Services Program grant from the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services. The grant proposal submitted sought to establish the FVCPP, housed at Empower Yolo, as a one stop shop for victim services. Instead of crime victims needing to go to multiple places to receive the necessary assistance, they would able to go to one place and receive counseling, legal aid, financial assistance, emergency shelter, etc.
On September 1, 2016, the MDIC was awarded the grant of $311,551.These grant funds will allow Empower Yolo to hire advocates and purchase the necessary equipment to make FVCPP efficient and successful for the communities within Yolo County. The District Attorney's Office will be receiving the grant funds and passing it on to Empower Yolo as they will be providing the direct services detailed in the grants operating budget. |
Collaborations (including Board advisory groups and external partner agencies) |
The Yolo County District Attorney in collaboration with Empower Yolo applied for the County Victim Service Program grant. The FVCPP will work closely with the Yolo County's Victim Services Steering Committee (VSSC). Members of this steering committee include, the Yolo County District Attorney's Office, Empower Yolo, Yolo County Health and Human Services, Yolo County Superior Court, West Sacramento Police Department, Yolo County Probation, and Yolo County Sheriff's Office. Community-Based Organizations (CBO) in Yolo County will be collaborating with the FVCPP.
County Counsel has reviewed the budget resolution and approved to form. Department of Financial Services has reviewed the budget resolution and approved. |
