Reason for Recommended Action/Background
In order to assist the department in meeting the Yolo County Board of Supervisors identified strategic goal of Sustainable Environment by efficiently managing natural and renewable resources, the General Services Department, Facilities Division is requesting $20,436 in IT Innovation funds in order to purchase a Weathermatic irrigation timer system.

Purchase of this timer system would allow Facilities staff to centrally control the irrigation of County landscaping at various locations from the Facilities maintenance shop.  Additionally, the system will sync via the internet, with weather forecast models, allowing the irrigation pattern to change given the expected forecast, and will allow Facilities staff to enter jurisdictional restrictions on water usage, in the event of future water rationing.

The General Services Department is confident that installation of this system will reduce in-field staff time on irrigation, reduce fuel usage by Facilities County vehicles visiting locations for the specific purpose of irrigating the property, and will allow maintenance staff and management to focus on servicing customers more effectively.
