Reason for Recommended Action/Background |
The Yolo Food Bank is leading the End Hunger Yolo Capital Campaign to raise funds for the refurbishment of a 36,000 square-foot warehouse facility that would help expand their food collection and distribution services. Currently the Food Bank is housed in a cluster of outdated metal sheds at 1244 Fortna Ave, Woodland.
The Yolo Food Bank is close to achieving the goal of their campaign, and provided the County's Budget Ad Hoc Committee with a request for funding the purchase of equipment at their new facility (Attachment B) which will also support program expansion. This presentation will provide an update on the Food Bank's End Hunger Yolo Capital Campaign, and its long term planning efforts.
With the Adopted Budget in September, staff presented the funding uses for Intergovernmental Transfer funds (IGT) which included a $2,000,000 set aside for emergency health and human services needs. At that time, assisting the Food Bank with improving their facility and thus allowing for an expansion of their operations was included as a priority for use of these one-time funds. Should the Board provide direction to utilize IGT funds for the Food Bank expansion, staff will return at a subsequent Board meeting for approval of the contract with Food Bank for funding. |
