Reason for Recommended Action/Background |
In June 2018, the District Attorney's office submitted a grant proposal to the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services to receive funding for Violence Against Women (VAWA). In late Aug/early Sept the DA's office was notified that our proposal had been selected but we were not officially awarded the funding until December 3, 2018.
This grant is a vertical prosecution grant which will allow the VAWA unit to maintain a consistent relationship with the victim from the beginning to the end of the legal process. This grant will allow the Victim Service's Unit to dedicate a limited term Victim Services(VS) Program Assistant, limited term Paralegal, and an extra help VS Program Assistant, all funded by this grant, to handle domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking cases.
The Paralegal will assist on these cases by preparing motions and case briefs, preparing jury instructions, assisting with restitution claims, etc.
The VS Program Assistant and extra help VS Program Assistant will assist in counseling services, walking the victim through the criminal justice process, attending court dates with victim, etc. |
Collaborations (including Board advisory groups and external partner agencies) |
The Yolo County District Attorney's VAWA unit will be working closely with all Local Law Enforcement Agencies and Community Based Organizations to provide the victim with quality services throughout the criminal justice process.
County Counsel and the Department of Finance have reviewed the budget resolution and approved the form. |
