Reason for Recommended Action/Background
The Yolo County Sheriff-Coroner's office is responsible for determining the manner of death, identification, cause of death, notification of the next-of-kin, the collection of evidence, and securing and the dissemination of property. The Sheriff-Coroner's office documents the ending of each life, to which these records are retained in the Yolo County Records Center.

The Request for Approval of Records Disposition Schedule has been prepared after careful examination of all policies with regards to operating, administrative, legal, fiscal, research, historical or archive value, as well as to the application of appropriate county, state, and federal rules, ordinances, regulations and/or statutes governing records retention.

The mission statement of the Yolo County Sheriff-Coroner is: "with a commitment to professionalism, integrity, and collaboration, we strive to uphold and respect the rights of all to liberty, equality, and justice." The approval of this records retention schedule will help the Yolo County Sheriff-Coroner to carry out its mission by being in compliance with countywide standards and policies and conformance with accepted records management practices.
Collaborations (including Board advisory groups and external partner agencies)
Yolo County Library, Archives and Records Center staff collaborated with the Yolo County Sheriff-Coroner's office in updating this records retention schedule. County Counsel has approved the resolution as to form.
