Recommended Action |
- Adopt resolution granting the District Attorney and/or Chief Deputy District Attorney authority to accept, on behalf of Yolo County, $202,454 from the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services for the DA's Violence Against Women Vertical Prosecution Program; and
- Authorize the District Attorney and/or Chief Deputy District Attorney to execute the grant award agreement including any and all amendments or extensions.

Reason for Recommended Action/Background |
The District Attorney's office was first awarded this grant December 2018. This is a vertical prosecution grant which allows the Violence Against Women's unit to maintain a consistent relationship with victims from the beginning to the end of the legal process. Personnel in this grant handle domestic violence, sexual assaults, and stalking cases.
This grant funds a limited-term Victim Services Program Assistant, a limited-term Paralegal, and an extra help Victim Services Program Assistant.
The Victim Services Program Assistant and extra help assist victims in counseling services, attending court dates, and assisting them through the criminal justice process.
The Paralegal assists on all cases involving violence against women by preparing motions and case briefs, preparing jury instructions, and assisting with restitution claims. |

The Yolo County District Attorney's Violence Against Women unit works closely with all local law enforcement agencies and community-based organizations to provide victims with quality services throughout the criminal justice process. County Counsel reviewed the board resolution and approved to form. |
