Strategic Plan Goal(s) |
Thriving Residents |
Reason for Recommended Action/Background |
The California Department of Housing and Community Development has issued a Notice of Funding Availability for its Planning Grants Program that provides $1.2 million to local jurisdictions for planning to study zoning code revisions to facilitate the construction of new housing. Yolo County is eligible for a $125,000 non-competitive grant. The funds would pay for staff time to study and draft revisions to the Yolo County Zoning Code which would clarify and simplify the code, and consequently encourage accessory and higher density housing to meet the County’s housing needs. |
Collaborations (including Board advisory groups and external partner agencies) |
The Community Services Department (CSD) will work with the Sacramento Area Council of Governments, California Housing and Community Development, and consultants provided by the State to draft an acceptable proposal and acquire the funds. CSD will then work intra-departmentally and with the community at large to make the code easier to use and foster efforts to build new residential development. County Counsel has approved the resolution as to form. |
