Reason for Recommended Action/Background |
In December of 2018 Animal Services was notified they would receive $10,000 in grant funding from the non-profit T.S. and K.D. Glide Foundation. These funds were for the purpose of upgrading the fencing and gates of the play yards located at the animal shelter. The current fencing and gates use hinges that have gaps that can allow for smaller dogs to unexpectedly exit the play yards. In addition, new fencing pieces will be purchased in order to add "catch pen" safety areas and improve the temperament testing area with safer materials.
Animal Services uses these yards for many important purposes, including exercising and socializing shelter dogs, presentations, safe practice handling trainings for volunteers and staff, and allow staff to observe and evaluate the dogs outside of the high stress shelter environment. The exercise opportunities provided by these areas makes the dogs more relaxed and better behaved, which can support volunteers in their efforts to see successful adoption outcomes.
Yolo County Animal Services has also received a donation of $8,000 from Arizona Community Foundation (ACF) to help fund the remainder of this project. ACF has become aware of our facility from interactions with one of our volunteers associated with the University of California, Davis. The Yolo County Sheriff's Office is now requesting that the Board accept the $8,000 donation per the Yolo County Administrative Policy and Procedures Manual on donations acceptance. |
Collaborations (including Board advisory groups and external partner agencies) |
The Department of Financial Services assisted with the appropriations and other money matters. County Counsel and the Department of Financial Services have both approved the resolution as to form. |
Competitive Bid Process |
A three bid process was utilized to obtain quotes for the fencing upgrade, a total of four vendors were contacted and only one responded with a quote. |
