Reason for Recommended Action/Background |
AB 998 (Aguiar-Curry) would add Highway 128 to the list of state highways that are eligible for an official “Scenic Highway Designation.” This bill would not designate Highway 128 as a Scenic Highway, but rather would make it eligible for such a designation following additional State assessment and verification, as well as community engagement and local government approvals. A Scenic Highway designation would require a locally-approved scenic corridor protection program which would, through various land use restrictions, protect the corridor from incompatible or incongruent land uses that might detract from scenic views.
Supervisor Saylor has requested the Board support this legislation (Att. A) and staff similarly finds that securing eligibility for future consideration of a Scenic Highway designation for Highway 128 is prudent. |
