Reason for Recommended Action/Background |
In 2008, the State's arsenic maximum contaminant level (MCL) decreased from 50 micrograms/liter to 10 micrograms/liter for drinking water. Since then one of the two community drinking water wells at the Wild Wings County Service Area (CSA), the Canvas Back Well, has been on "Emergency Standby" status due to exceeding the new State arsenic MCL standard. This status eliminates the use of the Canvas Back Well for drinking water purposes in the Wild Wings CSA. The CSA is seeking an arsenic treatment project to reduce arsenic levels in both Wild Wings water wells to 50 percent of the maximum contaminant level, in order to meet state arsenic requirements, provide for a 5% buffer in meeting the State requirement and return the Canvas Back well back to active status.
Luhdorff & Scalmanini, Consulting Engineers was awarded the contract to oversee the completion of the project, which is expected to take 22 months and have an anticipated completion date of October 2021, assuming the project kicks off in January of 2020. The total budgeted amount in the contract is $304,385. It is anticipated that the Wild Wings CSA will be able to fund this cost, as well as all additional costs associated with the project, and that no outside funding assistance will be needed. However, additional funding options, including Proposition 68 funding and state loans, are still being explored. |
