Recommended Action

Approve the acceptance of a restricted donation from AAA Northern California, Nevada & Utah ("AAA Northern California") in the amount of $2,500 for the period September 10, 2019 through December 13, 2019, for the provision of car seat safety inspection events for Yolo County residents.

Reason for Recommended Action/Background

On or about July 9, 2019, the Yolo County Board of Supervisors approved an agreement to accept a donation in the amount of $2500, for the Yolo County Health and Human Services Agency (“HHSA”) to purchase and distribute approximately 55 car seats for income eligible families and provide hands-on education to those families, to ensure each car seat is properly and safely installed. In addition, those funds also provided the means for HHSA to provide two (2) car seat check-up events available for all Yolo County residents to have their car seats checked for recalls, expiration, and correct installation of their car seats.

Now AAA Northern California is offering an additional donation of $2500. These funds will provide the means for HHSA to provide two (2) additional car seat checkup events, for a total of four (4) car seat check-up events, available for all Yolo County residents to have their car seats checked for recalls, expiration, and correct installation of their car seats.

Staff recommends acceptance of this donation to support the Yolo County Car Seat Safety Program’s goal of reducing the number of injuries from motor vehicle crashes associated with children ages 0-12 years old, by increasing the correct use of car seats.

No general funds are required by this action. This agreement approves the acceptance of $2,500 in donated revenue to be used for the purchase of car seats and car seat safety inspection events, for the period of September 10, 2019 through December 13, 2019. The amount of $2,500 will be included in the HHSA adopted budget for FY 2019-20.
