Reason for Recommended Action/Background |
On March 27, 2014 EMQ Families First announced that it did not plan to continue operating the Yolo Crisis Nursery effective June 30, 2014. EMQ Families First was the parent organization for the Yolo Crisis Nursery program, which has been in operation in Yolo County for fourteen years and works towards the goal of preventing child abuse by offering a safe and healthy place parents can voluntarily place their young children (ages 0-5) for child care during difficult times.
Services provided by the Crisis Nursery include the following;
- Crisis respite overnight care for children 0-5
- Crisis respite daycare for children ages 0-5 from 7am-7pm
- Respite daycare for foster parents of children ages 0-5 from 7am-7pm
- Subsidized preschool for children ages 2-5 from 9am-12pm
- Case management for parents
- Referrals to community resources
- Emergency transportation for clients
- Assessments and referrals for children
- Care packages
Following the announcement of EMQ, members of the Yolo community expressed significant concern over the potential loss of the program, and a large community effort was undertaken to save the program. EMQ Families First agreed to continue operating the program through FY14-15, in order to allow the program to conduct fundraising, develop an operating plan and establish independent 501(c)3 status. Yolo Crisis Nursery, Inc. was officially established as an independent non-profit (separating from EMQ Families First) on July 1, 2015. |
