Reason for Recommended Action/Background |
Senator Feinstein has requested that California counties adopt resolutions opposing the Trump Administration's recently announced plans to open nearly all federal coastal waters to new offshore oil and gas drilling, including the entire California coast (Attachment A). For reference, California state waters have been off-limits to new oil drilling since 1969, and the last lease sale in federal waters offshore was in 1984.
This request was first brought to the Legislative Board Subcommittee, who supported the item, but requested that it go to the full Board for concurrence, as per the Board Governance Manual. |
