| Reason for Recommended Action/Background |
The Delta Conservancy administers a grant program called the Ecosystem Restoration and Water Quality Grant Program. On August 31, 2017, the Yolo Habitat Conservancy submitted a concept proposal to place a multi-species habitat conservation easement on the 271.5-acre property identified as the Mitchell Trust Farm (recently conveyed to a new owner that is supportive of the easement). This property contains two active burrowing owl breeding sites and high-quality foraging habitat for Swainson’s hawk, white-tailed kite, and tricolored blackbird.
If established, the proposed conservation easement will maintain the existing agricultural activities on the property and will protect the habitat conservation values of the property in a manner that will contribute to the Yolo Habitat Conservancy’s efforts in meeting some of the conservation requirements of the Yolo Habitat Conservation Plan/ Natural Community Conservation Plan (Yolo HCP/NCCP). The Delta Conservancy has invited the Yolo Habitat Conservancy to submit a full proposal for this project. The Delta Conservancy has indicated that a resolution of support from the local land use authority will result in more favorable scoring of the final proposals.
