Reason for Recommended Action/Background |
The 2016-17 Authorized Equipment List was approved by the Board on September 27, 2016 as part of the 2016-17 Adopted Budget. Since that time, additional equipment and vehicle needs have emerged, as described below:
Community Services Department
The Planning & Building division needs to replace an aged, high mileage vehicle used for building inspections. Current vehicles are experiencing high maintenance costs, with one vehicle requiring a engine rebuild in recent weeks to put back in service for building inspection. This vehicle replacement will be funded by savings in services and supplies; no additional funding will be needed.
General Services Department
The Information Technology Division needs to purchase replacement network switches and additional network storage to keep up with the increasing data storage demands of County departments. Funding for these purchases will be funded by savings in other professional and specialized services.
Sheriff's Office
The Sheriff's Office needs to replace two unmarked vehicles for detective use that are approaching failure. Funding is currently budgeted in the COPS Fund for this purpose, but these vehicle replacements were not included on the 2016-17 Authorized Equipment List when the budget was adopted.
Cannabis Taskforce
The Cannabis Taskforce is in need of two new Chevy Tahoes to conduct inspections of medical cannabis cultivation sites. Cannabis Taskforce staff have been borrowing vehicles from the Agriculture Department to conduct inspections, and those vehicles are no longer available for use by the Taskforce. These vehicles will be funded by cannabis cultivation regulatory fees which are included in the 2016-17 budget. |
