Reason for Recommended Action/Background |
In 2017 the General Services Department, Parks Division was awarded a grant from California State Parks Habitat Conservation Fund (HCF) for improvements at Grasslands Regional Park. These improvements include: new trails and improvements to existing trails, new directional and interpretive signage, benches and shade structures, and an additional handicap-accessible parking lot. A minimum 50% match was required for completion of this project, and was secured at the September 27, 2016 Yolo County Board of Supervisors meeting. Other County contributions to this project include $60,000 from One-Time Tribal Funding (Rural Initiatives) approved by the Board on March 12, 2019, and available funding from the 2005 City of Davis Master Agreement as it pertains to Grasslands Regional Park.
The Yolo County General Services Department, Parks Division operates and maintains Grasslands Regional Park, located south of Davis. The 323-acre park contains unique opportunities to view intact grassland prairie, seasonal wetlands and vernal pools, while providing a habitat for a variety of bird species including Western Burrowing owl, Northern harrier and Swainson's hawk.
