A. Consider staff recommendation to establish a Board Ad Hoc Committee at the September 24, 2019 Board of Supervisors meeting in order to evaluate long term sustainability options for the Yolo County Fire Protection Districts.
Reason for Recommended Action/Background
On July 23, 2019 the County Board of Supervisors received a report regarding the challenges facing the Yolo County Fire Protection Districts; particularly the declining volunteer base and lack of sufficient funding for operations. As a result, the Board directed staff to work with the fire districts to develop a long-term sustainability plan. Since that meeting, the Yolo County Fire Chiefs Association designated a subset of fire chiefs to meet and work with County staff on this plan. Initial meetings have involved the gathering and evaluation of data as well as the discussion of baseline operational standards. Due to the scope of the overall issue, including the potential to meet and discuss similar experiences with officials in other counties, is it the recommendation of County staff that the Board form an ad hoc committee to assist with direction and oversight in the long term sustainability plan development process. Based on Board direction and input, a Board Subcommittees worksheet would be completed and provided to the Board at the September 24, 2019 meeting for a formal decision regarding the establishment of the ad hoc committee. |
