Flourishing Agriculture |
Reason for Recommended Action/Background |
Each year, pursuant to the provisions of Sections 2279 and 2272 of the California Food and Agricultural Code, the Yolo County Agriculture Department prepares the Agricultural Crop Report summarizing the acreage, production and value of Yolo County's agricultural commodities. This report represents gross value only and does not attempt to reflect the net farm income.
Continued severe drought conditions and overall lower commodity prices were major factors contributing to a 17% decline in the gross value of Yolo County's agricultural production from $796,963,000 (corrected value) in 2014 to $661,752,000 in 2015. This is the first decline in gross value of agricultural production since 2010. Processing tomatoes continue as Yolo County's leading commodity with a gross value of $139,135,000. Organic Production edged out Rice to join Almonds, Wine Grapes, and Walnuts among the top five commodities according to gross value. Sunflower Seed, Rice, Alfalfa, Cattle, and Nursery Products round out the top ten commodities for 2015. |
