Reason for Recommended Action/Background |
The Board of Supervisors Facilities Subcommittee (BFS) was established in July 2007 to have greater Board involvement in the facilities planning process. Specifically, the Subcommittee assists with the policy, political, and fiscal issues associated with major facilities projects. This enhances governance and helps insure facilities achieve Board objectives.
Staff recommends adding information technology (IT) projects to the responsibilities of the BFS in order to obtain Board input on the purchase and/or development of IT projects. Given the cost and complexity associated with IT projects, having greater Board involvement in these projects would be similarly beneficial to the facility and property issues currently vetted through the BFS. In addition, it will enhance the quality of projects that are developed and, where required, advanced to the full Board for review and approval. |
