Yolo County has partnered with WAVE Broadband since 1999. This partnership has created many joint-use projects that have benefited the public and the county with respect to extending and enhancing broadband availability and network connectivity. Some examples include fiber to the home in Knights Landing, broadband connectivity to the Greengate School, a redundant county fiber ring in Woodland as well as connectivity to UC Davis and the City of Davis for government and public safety operations.
This agreement will allow for WAVE Broadband to occupy county-built conduit, existing and future, in exchange for the county’s use of fiber in those conduits. Requests for access will be made by WAVE to the county and will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Further, where WAVE does not expect to expand commercial service along those approved pathways, WAVE pledges to make bandwidth at a reasonable cost available to local providers for last-mile connectivity should that be desired.
If approved, this Private-Public partnership will streamline the process for which these specific requests can be approved by the County under this umbrella agreement, benefiting all.
