Reason for Recommended Action/Background |
During the Board budget hearings on June 11, 2013, the Board did not approve the replacement of the vehicles requested for purchase during the 2013-14 fiscal year in order to allow time to review the updated fleet policy with particular interest in vehicle replacement criteria. At that time, staff indicated it may be necessary to consult with departments to determine if this delay would impact operations.
Planning and Public Works has indicated a need to replace an asphalt truck that was sold at auction in March. At the time of sale, the 2002 truck had 120,047 miles and was in need of repair. The 2013-14 budget includes the necessary funds to replace this truck and with board approval it will be ordered on July 1, 2013. This is specialty equipment which includes a propane heated box to keep the asphalt hot as it travels from site to site for road repairs and maintenance. The new truck with the required equipment is estimated to cost about $209,000.
Staff recommends PPW be exempted from the Board's 2013-14 vehicle replacement prohibition in order to purchase one Freightliner M2 patch truck. |
