Reason for Recommended Action/Background
The Board of Supervisors, on February 11, 2020, adopted a policy governing the naming of county assets, including the naming of parts of facilities, in honor of a person.  That policy is included as Attachment A.   At the September 12, 2023 Board of Supervisors meeting, a request was made to review this policy and consider renaming the Board of Supervisors Chambers in honor of Supervisor Gary Sandy, who passed away on August 17, 2023.

Staff will review the policy and seek Board direction on the naming process.  The policy states that a proposal for naming in honor of a person can be two years after retirement or separation from the County, or two years after the person's death.  As the policy on naming county assets is a Board policy, the Board could make changes to the policy or decide to find that this two-year rule should not apply given the length and breadth of Supervisor Sandy's public service in the community.
